The seal is 4 inches and a bear to get out. you can buy NOS sealsor newer replacement seals. There isnothing wrong with the NOS seal. Just get the leather part wet with light oil before installing. Also the NOS seal is much stronger. If off roading your rig, NOS seal won;t get damaged by logs and sticks at the bottom of the mud bog. The newer seals are very thin and dent easily. although the odds are kind of small that this would happen. my .02
