Thanks for the help. I spoke with a local guy who is well versed in this stuff and he said that the line from the pump should go to the plow valve first, not the steering box, as I had it. Tom, you got the right answer for that one. He didnt suggest splitting the return lines though. He said it needs to be in series, not in parallel. When I first plumbed this up, I installed a tee in the lines and had 2 pressure lines and 2 return lines. (parallel) That didnt work at all. Before undertaking this project, I did a pressure test on the plow pump. I cant recall the exact number but I believe it was around 1000 psi. I was told that the steering box would be fine with that pressure.
I am thinking that with the way I had it plumbed with the pressure line direct to the steering box that when I used the plow the return line from the steering box became the pressure line to the plow valve and thats when I blew the seal. I have the plumbing switched around now and am in the process of replacing the seal. Manny c's defunct steering box has come in handy after all! I sure hope this takes care of it.
