All Dodge 4X4's had Divorced transfercases thru 1974 (except Ramcharger-Trailduster) As for engines, if your talking 318 LA, the best ones are 67-72. They have more power, and run and breathe much better than the others. also as Paul in Ny also said, any 318-3 industrial engine is a good choice. If I recall right pretty much all 67- and some 68 LA 318's have forged cranks. I try and get my hands on every pre-74 Mopar smallblock I can, as those are the best ones. A 1971 318 will smoke the daylights outta any 86 318 anyday! (in stock form that is) As for trannies, the NP420 would work, NP435 and NP540s .
