M37 Generator Problem Any ideas?

I have an original 24volt ’51 M37 that I believe has the 100 Amp generator setup. (A large generator, with a rectifier on the cowl and another “unit” mounted in front of the radiator.) It has operated fine in the past, but it appears not to be charging the battery. Just yesterday I noticed the head lights seemed to be a little dim, then an hour or so later noticed the battery gage was in the red, just below the yellow. Normally it runs in the low part of the green or sometimes in the high part of the yellow.

What concerns me is the day before I did a little mig welding on the truck, taking the normal precautions of disconnecting the batteries and make sure the welder ground is good. I have successfully done this before on the truck before without any problems, however I didn’t have a good ground on one arc and I fear that may have damaged something.

I’m not very familiar with the generator set (yet) and I’m wonder if there is a fuse or something else that may have popped due to the poorly grounded mig weld hit. Anyone have any tips on what I should check first?

(Converting to 12 volt isn’t an option, as I would like to keep this truck original).

Thanks in advance!
-Steve
