Something needs lube. High friction in the head or cable means that the cable will wind up til it overcomes the friction, then the end will spin like crazy, doing 200 mph for a second. on the cable, reach under dash and unscrew from speedo, pull cable from housing, coiling up neatly so as tp not get grease allover the cab. Clean, grease using graphite grease , reinstall. Also lube the speedo- above the cable fitting is a fitting with a wick inside, a few drops os sewing machine oil will help. Might be just as easy to remove speedo to do all this, only 4 screws?
