Happy New Year!
I know that we each speak a diferent dialect of English, but help me understand this. Aperture is a referance to the rear door opening?
An inch is "close enough"?
Are we talking about the approx. 4x5 foot opening?
As a carpenter "running an diagonal" is a common and most useful way to determine if an opening is square and in plane. We run a that check on double door openings to ensure that both doors will A) fit, and B) meet at the latch edges.
An inch out would mean that each side of the door opening is 1/2 inch out of true. Or roughly 3/8 per door edge, depending upon which edge the error favors.
Now lets pretend that an ordinary American or a anal german built that door and try to get it within a half inch or dead-on. That would make the rear doors match up and close and open almost perfectly and save wear on the latch mechanism. (I realise that they threw these truck together with an expected life span of a few minutes after they were to hit the beach, so I am not familiar with the average tolerances of these doors. Please advise).
