Oil Filter Update

Some of you may have noticed that the deluxe cannister (sock) filter has changed and no longer uses a rubber seal or resistor in the center of the sock that fits around the cannister's tube. The last NAPA filter I bought did not have it and the new WIX 51011 I just bought does not have it. I contacted Hastings and spoke with one of their engineers and he stated they have not used that design for quite sometime. Their product nows uses a fiber seal around the center tube the same as NAPA and WIX. So if your new filter looks like it is missing that rubber seal, it isn't, just made different.

I installed my first fiber sealed sock this past weekend and notice that my truck has to run at a faster idle to keep the electronic fuel pump's kill switch activated until the truck warms up, then it's fine. Seems this new fiber seal does not work as well as the rubber. If any of you are using an oil presure switch to kill the pump when the engine stops, you probably will experience the same situation.
