I installed 4.89's because I wanted the higher road speed, and I knew that I probably wouldn't be spending that much time off road. Someone who is going to spend lots of time off-roading probably would want to keep the 5.83's. Another option would be to keep the 5.83's and intall a Denman Overdrive unit (others on this forum could tell you more about it), and that would get you the higher speed about the same as installing 4.89's. This overdrive was not available 12 years ago when I installed my 4.89's. A word of caution, though: I have read something indicating that the overdrive reduces ground clearance somewhat, so you'd want to check into that.
