That HP rating is 300 less than a stock gas motors had, but the real question is what is the torque rating? I'd suspect that a stock 727 can handel up to 450 lbs of torque before it needs some internal help, because the 426 Hemi and the 440 at it's most potent, put out numbers in that range. In fact, the 440 powered motor homes had 727's so it can take that torque AND a weight rating much heavier than your truck. If it ever did give you trouble there are several shift kits on the market to strengthen and improve shift points and driveability, as well as allowing downshifting and true compression braking.
