McMaster-Carr has true mil-spec battery cable ends for around $2.50 each. Positive and negative are different sizes, like they're supposed to be, and they come with the correct bolts. After lots of needless trouble with regular aftermarket clamp-on battery cable ends, I use these on everything. I use a heavy (2/0?) cable with a crimped eye, solder the eye while the metal is still clean so the connection will stay good over the years, and put the mil-spec clamp on it.
By the way, sometimes it's instructive, after cranking the engine hard for a while, to feel all the battery connections, ground connection, starter post, etc. Quite often, one will be noticeably warmer than the others, which tells you you've got a problem there that isn't going fix itself.
