Each diode has a .6v loss, so 20 would drop 24v to 12v. And 10 would drop 12v to 6v. Little diodes ar cheap at radio shack, $3 would make a 6v gas gauge work on 12v.

Or go to the link below to build a more elegant system for fixed loads, like gas gauges. Seems you have to match the load, so make individual units for specific equipment like 1 for the radio, another for the CB, another for the 12v DVD player.
