As you're finding out, AdAware doesn't work all that well. I would recommend you try the free trial version of SpySweeper. Once you have it installed, run AdAware. Reboot, and then run SpySweeper and see how much more it finds.

Also, make sure that the popup blocker is turned on in Internet Explorer (Tools>Popup Blocker>Turn On Popup Blocker).
