Well, I'd spend a little time checking to see that the drive cable worked, then I'd look at the head, then I'd look at the t-case just because I like to check the easy things first... Unhook the cable from the speedo head and have someone turn it by hand (or with a drill) so that you can see if the cable is in one piece and turning, if it is, move on to checking that the speedo turns when you manually work it (with and without the cable attached).
Depending on what you find, you should be able to isolate what component is bad.
I suspect that you've done all this already...
I haven't had problems on the t-case end itself, but I have broken the drive cable where it bent at the frame right at the t-case. No longer have this problem since I am running an electric Datcon unit...
I have a chart on my website with a bunch of S-W adapters (gear and angle, etc) that you might be able to use to decipher what you have...
