wheel types are usually changed to achieve the following (order of importance)
1. lighter weight (reduce unsprung mass)
2 thru 4 same as 1
5. Strength (increased load capacity)
6. same as 5
1 to 6 can usually be obtained by using a
FORGED alloy (ie Alcoa) wheel only
other reasons
7. increased wheel width
8. modified offset
9. looks ???
as the 2 piece budd wheel is probably the strongest & most durable 16in truck wheel ever made the question again is why change
both 900 and 1100 16 michelins were both made originally for use on this specific wheel
the problem of getting a one piece 16 in drop center tubless type wheel for an M37/PW is
that there is no place for the center drop
(where the bead sits while mounting) go to
Cabell's page & look at the wheel configs
and you do not want to change the offset as
the center line of your original wheels places the load on the hubs (bearings) correctly.
