M = 1959
23 = 230.

As best I can figure all light duty 1959 Dodge trucks got a M23 engine.

So far the PWs I have checked that seem to have original motors have this number, as well as the W100-W200, D100-D300.

The books claim something else, but Dodge did not follow what they claimed they would in the late 50s.

It should be a more powerful version of the original motor, as a 46 1 ton panel should have a 230 as well.

W300Ms claim 102 HP at 3600 RPM, and the standard cab trucks claim 109 HP at 3600 RPM.
