Hey Jimmie:

Id swap him square up in a heartbeat! This truck you describe sounds very stout, and Id love to make a find like this. You sound correct on the axles, This should be a 70 Rear, 60 front. Also seeing it is a 1 ton, it might have the cast iron HD Np205 T-case. With the TBI 360, thats another bonus too. Easy starting in winter! You'd be upgrading from a 3/4 to a 1 ton, and you'd be getting rid of that full time 4x4 that sucks fuel, wears out tires and front ends quick etc. Man, Id like to have this truck for my winter work mule..... Now the OD automatic is the A-518. It is basically a 727 with an OD. It is very weak when worked hard. If you blow the trans, get it rebuilt and dont spare any expense on upgrading it. They make upgrades for them to make them last and hold up. Personally, Id swap it out for a NP435 tho.
Just one thing to remember, There has to be a reason the guy wants to trade you...I mean who in their right mind would want to go from a EFI 1 ton truck to a Carb'd older 3/4 ton? Either your truck must be a cream puff, or there must be something majorly wrong with his........ Good luck!
