Rear Wheel Bearing Nut (Inner)?

The inner and outer rear wheel bearing nuts are not identical. The inner nut (P/N 915 395) has a raised stud or stand-off
(someone has the technical name for this, I'm sure) on one face. Intuition tells me that this side should be the side against
the bearing cone (i.e., facing inward), mainly because I can't imagine what benefit would accrue by having it face
outward, where it would face the lock washer. Could someone verify this for me, please. Furthermore, can someone tell
me "why". I mean, if there were two or more of them, evenly spaced, it would at least not appear that they would exert
uneven pressure on the side of the bearing cone.

v/r Mark
