'42 PowerWagon Military Ambulance....need advice on buying it.

Have an opportunity to buy it for $500. My husband has always liked these and I was thinking of buying it as a present for him. Seems to be pretty much original condition. Is faded gray, maybe used to be green, has strechers in it....current owner says it was running 3 years ago when he last started it up. What should I be looking for on it? What do you think? Any advice?
