As the owner of a DUKW (#14962) I can vouch for the fact you can get a 3/4 ton Command Car or Weapons carrier in, but you have to lift it straight. I'm a particular fan of that 270 engine which is almost unkillable in normal use.

A lot of the ex-Norway GMC 6 x 6s were shipped to dealers yards in Europe with WC Weapons Carriers in the back too, you had to leave the tailgate down if the Dodge was a winch model.

I've always believed that the final W stood for 'twin rear axles on an inverted leaf spring' myself.
