WC-21 repower

Has anyone done a 318 repower to a 1/2 ton WC? I have one with no motor and wanted to build it for regular driving over a 3000' mountian pass. It already has 4.89's. I wont be building for some time but would like to get some ideas in case I need to be looking for parts. I am currently restoring 2 WDX's to original and thought it nice to have a PW with a little top end. How mutch modification is involved? Can I retain the original tranny? Please send your thoughts and ideas. A diesel repower is just a little too expensive for my budget.
