Did this too for a time with my M37. Allowed me to keep the engine 24v and still have a 12v source. Mounted the 3rd battery on the shelf in the engine compartment which was for the regulator. Still have the custom alternator mounting bracket which fits above the stock alternator - $25 + shipping.
