Yes, assuming that axle means axle and not the axle housing...ha!ha! The axle is two piece, with a "collar" that slides over the axle ends to engage the front. Any Dana 44F from a Dodge will work as long as it is from an open knuckle axle housing. The closed knuckle axles had different ends. Once installed you can just cover over the unused vacuum port. You could, and there were companies that made kits, convert to cable operated, but with a one piece axle and hubs that wouldn't be required. One note: the axle housing is also two piece and therefore a bit weaker than the one piece axle housing, I changed both the tube and axle on mine, and if you have the one piece axle and housing, use it with hubs and eliminate completely the shift-on-the-fly feature. Otherwise, just changing the axle and covering the vacuum port with a waterproof cover and adding hubs will work fine.
