NY does not title cars and trucks as old as 1950; I know from registering my 1955 C3PW and my 1941 WC 12. You will need a valid bill of sale. Both of my trucks came with expired out of state registrations which the NYS DMV used. However it is not necessary. You can go to the NYSDMV, (www.nydmv.state.ny.us), web site for the exact paperwork you will need.
Compared to what I have read of the California DMV, the NY is much less rigid and will usually help you in registering your vehicles.
