It is a pressure type, with surge tank, but don't make the same mistake I did and run it with a high pressure cap. Mine ran fine till I took it for a long high speed drive one day (55 miles at 50+ mph). When I let off the gas and started down the exit ramp, my freeze plugs blew out! Put new ones in and they blew out, finally woke up to the fact that they are not designed to be under pressure. Duh! Now I run with a plain cap on the radiator and a 2psi cap on the surge tank. No problems since I did that.
