That ruse was used in NY City. A person would go to a junk yard, and get a chrome "Chrysler" emblem, and stick it on a Cadillac, etc.
Before the advent of vehicle registration windshield stickers, which describe in detail the year, make, model, etc., of a car, the Meter Maids were essentially clueless. A parking ticket with all the correct info, but with the wrong "make" written in, would be dismissed as defective.
I once saw a "JEEP" emblem on a Toyota, and a "Toyota" emblem on a Plymouth Duster.
Ah, the good old days.
