for anything other than perhaps a small radio or light bulb that's only used occasionally. It's very hard to equalize the loads on the two batteries and you will end up with one continually over-charging, the other not getting charged enough, and eventually with batteries wearing out very quickly. On the brush fire truck I bought from the county they had hooked the 12V rotating light and the radio to the midpoint of the two batteries (24V system). The batteries were shot and the fire chief told me the truck was always eating batteries. With the 12V stuff removed, I've had no trouble at all.
