There should be NO up and down movement in the pin rod connection. The best way to check this is to assemble the piston rod and pin, place the piston on a flat surface (head down ) and pull up and down on the rod. If you feel any movement up and down the fit is too sloppy.
There are some places you can push the specks and run the engine loose. The pin ,rod , piston fit is not one of them.
