I did the reverse of what you want to do a few years ago. I took the nearly perfect insides from an early WC-9 ambulance transmission and installed them into the 'up to' style transmission in my '49 B1 Power Wagon. They worked great. Make sure that the bottom drain plugs of both transmissions are at a slant at the bottoms - this indicates the 'up to' style of transmission.
