From what I understand it really does make a big difference on the rear mount shackles. Very few axles have them on the front, so engineers know something about what's best I guess.
I have a Town Wagon which used front shackles on front axle, and unfortunately the springs are sagged out. Put in another couple of leaves, but still not enough. The LU-2 and custom bumper don't help.
The old girl currently has front shackles pushed forward, touching the frame! Okay on the highway, but in the woods it's a pretty rough ride....
