Never had to measured the voltage on the Dist side. It should read zero when points shorted and would think 6 volts when open with no load to ground just using the meter. The points will take it to zero with out the Cap in the circuit. You can pull the Cap out and if you have a old style VOM (not digital) set it on ohms and hook the cap from the wire to one lead the can to the other lead (using the meters leads) the neadle should slowly move over as the cap charges. Then reverse the conections and the meter shoud ping full scale if it is good. You are charging the cap this way and when you revere it the stored voltage pings the meter in reverse. Mark H.
