Hi All,
Well my goal for today was to install my Helitool disc brake kit. Over the course of the past week I have been gathering anything I needed to accomplish the job. Got the brackets all painted and ready to go. I started in this morning, and had smooth sailing until I tried to install the calipers. They just wouldnt go. I checked the problem and it looked like if I ground about 3/8" off the caliper it would fit. The brake line also did not appear to be in a great spot. Then I tried screwing the banjo bolt into the caliper and the hole was too small. That is when I called my parts house to see what they had sold me. He came up with a number different than what I had so off to the next town over for the swap. When I got there we opened up the new one and I could see right away that this was the right thing. We tried the banjo bolt into the casting and it was fine. Got back to the shop and breezed through the drivers side caliper and brake line. Got the passenger side caliper on and went to screw in the banjo bolt and much to my suprise and dismay the threads were different. I took the drivers side hose off and tried the passenger side bolt in the drivers side and it screwed right in. Upon closer inspection the passenger side hole is definately smaller and a courser thread. I called the parts house and explained it to the owner. He told me he would come out to my shop tomorrow morning (Sunday), pick up the caliper and my banjo bolt, drive 25 miles to a parts wholesaler, get a new caliper and check it with my banjo bolt and bring it all back to me. Now that is what I call customer service. This is a small parts house, just the owner and 1 employee. I am always amazed at how often they have just what I am looking for. If they dont have it they will usually have it by noon the next day. Their prices are decent and I really like having them in the next town. So, I hope to finish the brakes up tomorrow.
Tim
