I have considered two such trips, both here in Alaska. Trip one would be to take three or four days and drive the Denali highway. One could start from either the Cantwell side or the Paxson side. The length is only 134 miles but 85% of it is gravel. Trip two would be to drive the McCarthy road. The McCarthy road is only 60 miles in length and uses the old road bed of the Copper River & Northwestern Railroad. The pavement ends after crossing the Copper River at Chitina and is gravel all the way to the end of the road at the Kennicott River just outside of the town of McCarthy. Both roads go through what we call up here "Bush Country". Because they are remote, services and facilities are far and few. I haven't had the chance yet to drive the Denali highway, but I have drove the McCarthy road once back in '01 (though not with my truck). Once I get some more work done on my truck, I do want to drive both roads. Both roads would make great summer trips. Robert
