Hi Paul,

Just between those two choices I see no reason to use a 318. Your mileage will be the same with either engine in a Power Wagon configuration. The reliability is identical. Weight is the same. Parts are virtually identical. Dimensions are the same. The same components may be used with either engine.

Overall there is but one difference, and that is displacement. It is impossible to duplicate the power and torque of a 360 with a 318. Whatever you do to a 318 to increase power or torque will give a greater increase in a 360. Very simply, you want maximum torque to power your gears, and a 360 simply has more of it.

With a 360, and some '72 Dodge truck 2bbl heads, a towing cam, a small 4bbl [Edelbrock 1406 650cfm] on an M1 manifold, with small headers [1 5/8] and dual exhaust [2 to 2 1/2 inch, low restriction mufflers, stock electronic ignition, you'll have an engine that will paste you back in the seat anytime you want, and reliable for 200,000+ miles.
