The margin of victory is the biggest in 24 years. President Bush recieved the largest number of votes in history, President Clinton never recieved more than 49% of the vote. Republicans won additional seats in both the House, the Senate and State legislatures and Governorships. This was indeed a Mandate.
The only similarities I see between Vietnam and the War on Terror is John Kerry. Because of John Kerry I was spit upon and accosted at LAX when I came home. John Kerry lied about the conduct of American Soilders overseas, he used the tragedy of Vietnam for his personal gain, he built his entire career upon that lie, he tried to link Vietnam to the War on Terror and we have put that lie, and that demon that haunts me and many other Vietnam Era Veterans to rest with his defeat.
Fiscal reform is coming. President Bush has weathered the Clinton Recession, the devastating economic losses from 9-11 and the cost of re-building our military in the midst of a war.
In the coming months you will see social security reform, tax reform for all Americans and sound fiscal planning that will lower the deficit. But that requires all of us to work together and unite in the common task.
America has spoken, now we need to get to work.
