But it explains why most "dispensing tanks" are only 100 gallons. I wonder if I could make it "actually fuel the equipment on the vehicle" by connecting an outlet line to the truck fuel system with a valve so I could use off-road diesel when on private land, and highway diesel when on the highway.

I have a bunch of 55-gallon polyethylene barrels. Maybe for now I should just pump the free furnace oil into those barrels. I wouldn't expect any government trouble since I'd just haul them from Wallace to my land, which is only 10 miles of dirt road.
