BRADEN MU winch question

I needed a half ton WC winch for a future project here in Scotland, so I bought this one.

It's photographed like it would be if you were standing looking at the front bumper, but the input shaft for the drive is at X rather than at Y where I would have expected it to be.

Anyone know what's wrong? All I can come up with is that either the main assembly on the RH side is upside down, or that the winch might have come from something else and not a half ton WC. Anyone have a spare cable guide for it? I don't need the bumper as I'll be making something up for that.
