Stock heater is fender mounted. Two versions: one gas fired, one hot water. Units both ducted hot air through a knock out on the cowl just in front of the driver's door. Firewall mounted heaters are not "stock", but work very well and are easier to find then the fender mounted units. It is also easier to access the engine for servicing if you don't have the fender mounted heater.

Incidently: there was also a powerplant heater kit that installed between the passenger fender and running board in order to heat the engine and batteries for really cold areas (it was gas fired). The military's mounting instructions for this one are on my site as well.
