I think that's a great idea! All it would really take is to pick a date and see who shows up.
What do you think about having it on the same weekend as the Midwest Willys reunion? (late Sept.-early Oct.) I don't want to rob attendacne from their event. Perhaps more people might travel from far away if they could make two events on one trip. I would love to see a variety of old trucks out on the trail together.
The Willys organizers don't want a trail ride associated with their event, because they fear liability. That wouldn't stop us from independently organizing a trail ride around the same dates.
If you don't like that idea, Mid October seems to work well. The weather is perfect and the fall colors are nice.
The Capital City Crawlers have their annual event in October. It might get too crowded to do it the same weekend as that, but that also adds a level of excitement. It worked good this year to go the week after the Fall Crawl. We had the place to oursleves, and we got to do all the freshly prepped trails that the local club had been building for weeks.
