My vote would be for either a Cummins 4BT with a NV4500/NP205 combination similar to what Lee Alessi did with him M715 (very enthusiastic reports about power/economy from him) or a Cummins 4BT with a ZF S542 (from a F250) utilizing the stock transfer case.
