Hi Shawn,

Could be a lot of possible causes. Ignition is new, but did you lube the rubbing block for points on the distributor shaft?

Check your coil's output voltage to specifications, and check all grounds of any kind throughout the ignition, including engine to chassis strap. Check coil + & -wires for breakage or frayed connectors, and clean connections. Check complete wires for bare spots leaking voltage to ground.

Check the distributor cap for carbon tracks indicating any cracks. An old trick is to fire up the motor in the garage or wherever, then turn out all the lights and take a look under the hood as someone accelerates the motor through various rpm's. You can find some interesting electrical problems that way!

I will assume the timing is correct? You might want to check the distributor vacuum advance mechanism. With the engine off disconnect the tubing going to it and apply vacuum to it and see if the advance plate moves. Did you lube up the advance weights in distributor with a drop or two of light oil when you put in the points/condenser? Did you lubricate the felt wick in top of distributor shaft with a few drops of light oil?

It can't hurt to pull the carb apart and clean it up. Before you do, run the truck on level ground with no load at different speeds and see if there is any surging of the motor. This can indicate either lean or rich condition in carburetor. The curb idle screw adjusts engine idle speed, but idle mixture jet/screws adjust rich or lean for about the first 1/3 of the carburetor's actions. Clean it all up, then adjust it a little richer to see if that helps the idle stalling.

A sticking choke could cause problems, so clean and lube and check for correct operation. You'll need some sort of manual to get choke adjust specs.

If you're also getting backfiring through carb check all carb gaskets for proper seal, and any vacuum lines for leakage.

That's a start....
