Ron, check out the link below. This does not list current numbers (yet), but it will show you the correct Auto-Lite and Chrysler part numbers for the distributor on your truck, and also the cap, rotor, points, and condenser for that distributor. You should be able to cross these numbers at a NAPA parts business. My NAPA dealer knows me well enough now that I seldom have to give him part numbers anymore to get the correct parts. Some of my old boxes containing spare parts that I carry in the trucks at all times have SMP numbers, but the parts and boxes tend to get missmatched, so I can't really trust this information to share.

What I can tell you: The IAY series distributor takes a smaller cap and rotor than the predecessor IAD series used on '46-'49 POWER-WAGONS. Next came the IAO series for '49 and '50 (also with a smaller cap and rotor). The IAY series began in '50, but it also superseded and replaced the IAO, which may explain how your '49 came to have an IAY distributor.

From my experience, I have found that the same set of points will fit and work with all three distributors. The cap, rotor, and points should not care whether they are being used with 6, 8, or 12 volts but it has been so long since I have run 12 volts, I am not sure about the condensor. I usually get my points and condensors from a tractor supply retail business and these are labeled for Case and Massey Ferguson/Massey Harris products with Auto-Lite distributors and do not specify voltage on the packaging.

Clint
