You need to buy the Book called moving the earth byEchols, it show vintage cable and early d4 side cutting into mountains with simple and easy to understand directions and drawings and explanations, look for a contruction bookstore and they willhave it, is used in trials still as to standard procedures on excavation, it is not written in legalese either, about 600 pages for $45, all the old time cat skinning tricks are in there and a lot of b&w shots of old cats and trucks. Read it 10 times and u will be ready to take down Mt Helens with ya d4!! Good luck, if you are worried about slidding you can weld a eye to the track frame and atach a cable to a big rock or tree until you get the grade cut, look for cable at junkyard or surplus wirerope 5/8 should do fine for the d4, think t weighs 15,000 or so?? Work from top to the bottom and sidewinder cut ya road, like a Z, there is a very detailed drawing that will make it clear. Good luck, many of those roads were cut with d4 no forget, it is not the size of the dozer but the size of the brains pulling the steerring clutches back, u will do fine.
