If you points are open, you may have some bad insulation on your primary lead (coil to points wire, or stud through distributor case ((should be insulated from case by plastic sleeeve and washers)), or the priimary lead from stud to points inside dist, or the spring/band from condenser is grounded at screw on points, or condenser has internal short.
