I put a 420 in my '53 out of a '56. The engine and transmission will bolt in, but you need to use the handbrake sector and plate off the 420 as the bolt holes are different on the non syncro. Also, It is reccomended that you use the brake pedal and brackett out of the syncro truck if you have a PTO for clearance issues. I did not use the later brake pedal and brackett on my '53 and the clearance is quite tight (less than 1/8"), but I have had no problems with the PTO rubbing on the brackett.
