Paul, I lined the bottom of the gas tank in my '49 back in 1992(?), using the Bill Hirsch coating. I did my best to follow the recommendations on the can for prepping and applying. I drove the truck a couple of thousand miles over the next 3 years or so and never had a problem. But then my truck went into storage for about 6 years, during which time the Hirsch coating loosened its grip from the gas tank metal. Since I was rebuilding basically the entire truck, I decided to drop the tank and have a look at things inside there. Much to my concern, the coating was loose and could be peeled off in large sections. At that point, I decided to just pressure wash the remaining portion out of the tank. My tank wasn't rusted very much, contrary to what I had originally thought, so I decided to just leave it uncoated. I've had no problems with it ever since (for the last two years).

Sorry to the Hirsch people, but I wouldn't use that stuff in my gas tank again.

Matt
