On your diagram, the original shims (larger ones at each end of the drawing) should be checked before dis-assembly of the gears & cross, these washers provide the proper backlash of the side gears to the spiders, if these are worn, the side gears will have too much end play thus allowing them to be forced outward under pressure and the new drive pinion (lock rite) will seperate too far from the cross shafts and place torque on the aligment pins, this is probably the cause of your trouble. I recommend purchase of a differential repair kit for the M37 from AB Linn (about $15 or so) It contains NEW side gears, Shims, gaskets, and cross shafts and cross, if you set the shims up to the standards in the M37 manual (this applies for PW too) then install the lock-rite kit with the thickest thrust washer they send (if it will fit) then your unit should operate very well. I know that the factory shims on the rear end I did were indeed worn out! (They are fibre, not steel) Good luck!
