Brett,the reason it sounds almost like the same bike,is mine was also an ex L.A cop bike.
I worked in a Custom Motorcycle shop in Pasadena,California,right after I got out of the service in 1973.
The boss owned this 1953 panhead with tank shift,rocker clucth,police special speedometer. It was painted blue,but the paint was peeling so bad you could make out the black and white paint and some of the LAPD logo.
I managed to pull together 1400 and bought it from him.
Like I said I sold it about three years later.....damn I sure miss that bike but not the ex wife.
