I'll add something else to this. If your welding around any battery cover it with something! I personally witnessed this: my former co-worker was welding on a grain truck bed.(hoist up) He finished his bead lifted the helmet and the battery EXPLODED.Seems a molten drop of steel hit the frame rail and a small piece landed on top of the battery. Escaping gases from the battery and the molten metal got together and boom. Sounded like a 12 gauge going off and sent acid all over the place ,including his eyes .That was the most pain I think I have ever seen someone in. I drug him to a hydrant and held a garden hose in his face till he quit screaming.He didn't loose his sight but it took several days till he could see.Needless to say I take my batteries clear out of the area before welding on anything.Again, I would suggest at least covering it up.Trust me, you don't want to go through it.
