Your bearings should have a consistent coloration after you clean them. If there are any shiny streaks on either the bearing or race then it has been galled or run dry and may not last long. Make absolutely certain that when you reassemble the bearings, they go into the same race they came out of. These will seat into a position and if you put them into another race they will fail in fairly short order. The same goes for lifters. They get seated and you need to put them back where they came from.

Clean the bearings with kerosene and blow them out with shop air. DO NOT let the bearings spin with the air as it will ruin them by spinning them without lubricant.
