One was the directional cross country. these have a chevron patternto them and are run so the tip of the chevron hits the pavenment first, before the tail edge of the chevron. You really need two spares under this set-up. The early 1/2 tonners used this in a 7.50x16 size.

The other is the military non-direction tread (NDT) which have staggered ribs across the tire. The 3/4 tonners used this. The correct WWII pattern is with squared off shoulders on the tires. The modern post war style has rounded shoulders. The 3/4 tonners and the M37 used a 9.00x16 tire.

My 9.00x16 NDT's came from a commercial truck Firestone dealer. They are NOT marked Firestone. I don't know who made them. Cost was (three something years ago or so) $110 apiece.
